Background & History
Fred and Perle Deutsch spent more than four decades collecting a wide variety of cactus species, including rare plants from Mexico and the American Southwest. From early on, they dreamed of sharing their passion with the public. As early as 1964, they spoke with county officials about turning their home into a museum where the cactus garden could be preserved and enjoyed by the community.
